A look back at our road to success
Read about where it all started here at Chelston MotorhomesIn 1973 Brenda and Stanley Eyles purchased Snows Garage on the A38 near Wellington. The Chelston Brand was born when they renamed the business “Chelston Motors and Petrol”. 1986 saw the first appearance of motorhomes on the site… and the rest, as they say is history!
Chelston Motors becomes Chelston Motorhomes in 1986 and sells it’s first motorhome which was a Bedford CF Doormobil.
By 1989, the motorhome business was booming and it was in this year that Chelston made an enormous leap forward when they obtained their first official franchise with Auto-Trail. Its reputation was already high but in 1989, Chelston upped its prestige even further by securing its second franchise, this time with Bürstner.
By 1998, the original site was beginning to get extremely overcrowded. Having outgrown the original site the decision was taken to purchase land on the Business Park at Chelston with the aim being to develop a brand new Motorhome and Caravan Centre. In the spring of 1998 the first turf was cut and the building began in earnest. The building was finally completed and opened by local MP Jackie Ballard in 1999.
Chelston Motorhomes cements its partnership with Slovenian manufacturer Adria. Chelston motorhomes became an official Adria dealer in June of this year. Chelston could now sell many new motorhomes in the South West of England, including Adria, Auto-Trail and Bürstner models. Chelston Motorhomes was an up-and-coming company for leisure vehicle sales.
Chelston Motorhomes expands its facilities with the sales site extended to accomodate a brand new accessories store and retail workshop. The original site for Chelston Motorhomes on the A38 is redeveloped into a brand new purpose-built retail sales preparation facility with 10 bays.
Chelston Motorhomes celebrates 30 years of partnership with Auto-Trail as one of their biggest-selling dealerships. Chelston Motorhomes are now based in Somerset and sell motorhomes in the South West from a wide range of motorhome brands.
